We thought the decor was very poor.Cheaply done.No atmosphere, the view of course was superb. Went to the bar the floor below for a coffee which after half an hour or more did not arrive my husband had already drank his beer. Asked for a refund on the coffee and were told they were slow as it was change of shift. The plce was empty and that was a coffee I cant imagine what it would be like on a busy night. It certainly put us off going back....visit The Penthouse | review The Penthouse

Where do I start? On phoning the restaurant on Friday (the day before our booking) we were told that we would have to leave by 10.30pm (our table of 13 booked for 8.00pm)because they had a large party of German actors (I think) coming in. We arrived on time, were seated on very uncomfortable seats in a very oddly decorated room. We waited quite a while to be served with drinks, even though there seemed to be a lot of staff milling around. Our order was finally taken after about 1/2 hour. The waitresses did not even know whether there were vegetables served with the dishes and needed to ask. The menu was limited especially for a vegetarian, luckily I will eat fish. Finally after about an hour starters were served. The fish soup was warm, not hot and the parsnip soup and laverbread soup were made up of mostly cream. The bread served was edible but dry around the edges as if it had been sliced hours before serving. I chose not to have a starter (lucky for me). It got to 10.00pm and still there was no sign of any food and even though we asked how long it would be, nobody could actually tell us. People who came in after us were being served and it was taking 4 people to serve a table of 4 next to us - why?? A waiter then came over to our table to ask why we were still there as we had to be out by 10.00pm!! At this point we made the decision to leave WITHOUT HAVING EATEN. It was an absolute disaster, untrained staff, very unprofessional and an ocurance I have never experienced in any other restaurant. Regardless of whether or not it is new, why open when it is glaringly obvious that they have no idea how to run a business. If they continue in this vein they won't have a business. After all it's the customer who is king. A total shambles which I would not like anyone else to have to experience. They could only make excuses and a change of manager. At no point did they have the courtesy to actually apologise to the party. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The only positive note was the great company that we were with - well done guys. We finally ended up in a wonderful Indian Restaurant - Mihas, where we were treated with respect and served by friendly waiters. The food was delicious and very welcome. I SAY VERY LOUDLY, NO TO THE PENTHOUSE - STAY AWAY....visit The Penthouse | review The Penthouse

The staff were very attentive and the starter I had (Poultry Terrine) was excellent. The main course was lamb hot pot but most Welsh people would call it Cawl. It was woefully underseasoned but the lamb was melt in the mouth. A decent enough lunch for £16.50. I would go back for an evening meal. The USP of the view is well worth it....visit The Penthouse | review The Penthouse

If you savour quality food imaginatively presented in a welcoming atmosphere, this is the soiree for you. Intimate, and relaxed with the menu creatively refreshed, this charming place never disappoints. The owners care for their food and their customers; service is attentive but far from intrusive. Simply excellent....visit Chelsea Cafe | review Chelsea Cafe
